Manipur�s National Games contingent which cooped up the third position in the recently concluded 31st edition of the Games in Punjab was given a warm welcome upon their arrival at Imphal during a reception function hosted by the Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) at the Khuman Lampak at 10 this morning.
Despite the reverses suffered by the state due to the withdrawal of some events in which the State was confident of taking a handful of medals, Manipur bagged 30 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 18 bronze medals to come third in the Games which concluded on December 1.Cyclist Ch Rameshwori, who was awarded the Best Athlete of the Games was the cynosure of all eyes at Khuman Lampak today.
The cyclist chipped in five gold medals in cycling event.
She is also the first person to have won the title.
Hundreds of sports lovers, parents, fiends and relatives turned up for the reception of the players and officials.
MOA president G Joykumar Sharma, chief de mission Ch Birendra and other MOA officials were present at the reception.
The MOA lauded the efforts of the players, coaches, managers and other officials.
Altogether 350 players and officials took part in the games.
Earlier, the Dimapur Meitei Union organized a reception for the team at Dimapur Jain School yesterday.
Union president K Yaima promised to construct a rest house for the state in Dimapur at the earliest.
The team�s deputy chief de mission M Kumar Meitei announced a donation of Rs 10,000 towards the construction of the rest house.
Meanwhile, a delayed report said that the proprietor of Manipur Golden Travels agency Gurban Singh has offered to provide Ch Rameshwori an honorary job in his agency till she is properly settled with an appointment.
